Reading Homework:
3rd Grade students are expected to read 20 to 30 minutes at home each evening. Each month students will receive a blank calendar to record the number of minutes spent reading each day (see links to the left for copies of monthly calendars). At the end of the month, students are to tally the number of minutes spent reading and get a parent to sign the calendar. Calendars are to be turned in within a week of the last day of each month. Math Facts: Students are expected to memorize all multiplication and division facts (0x0 to 10x10) by the end of 3rd grade. This accomplishment requires daily practice, both in and out of school. Throughout the year, students will be given guides and materials to take home and use to practice memorizing facts. 10 - 20 minutes of math fact practice is expected daily. Students should record the number of minutes they practice their math facts on the calendar they are given each month. At the end of the month, students will tally the total number of minutes practiced, have a parent sign the calendar, and return it to school (within one week of the last day of the month). Spelling Homework Students are assigned a set of words with a particular spelling pattern or grammatical rule each week. New words are reviewed with the teacher each week and a Spelling Homework Packet is given to students to complete over the course of the week. Students are encouraged to do a small portion of the packet and practice sorting their words each evening. Spelling Homework Packets are due on an assigned day of the week and will take a spelling test each week on that day as well. |
